Thing 5

OH Wow, I did it on my own. I have never even known what a Html was. I just keep playing with things until I get it on my blog, but this time I managed the first time. This would be great for posters, signs and art projects. I am learning so much!! I really thought I would be.....

This is Amber, my Golden Retriever. She is the best dog EVER. She is very sensitive and likes to have her paw held. She loves the camera.

I was able to figure out the Flickr basics on my own. Yea me!! I would however, like to figure a way to put pictures of my other six pets on my blog. As a set so to speak.

I will definitely continue to use Flickr. I can also see why a library might want to use it also.

Thing Three-RSS

I am really greatful to be learning RSS. The most annoying thing about the internet (for me) is spending so much time traveling from one website to the next. RSS saves so much time. It is really easy to subscribe to the accounts. Finally something I know I will be using in the future.

I did have a problem receiving a verification e-mial on my aol account when subscribing to Bloglines.com. I finally had to change it to my Yahoo account. Then I received my verification e-mail immediately. Did anyone else have this problem?

Thing 2-Library 2.0

As a person 40+ years of age, I am fascinated, confused, and somewhat concerned about L2. I am learning so much already about the potential of the web. I do take longer to do the lessons in 23 Things than my younger coworkers. I do homework. I am very busy so don't have time to play like I want.

I understand how some of the programs might be applied in the library system. And I understand that libraries have a responsibility to offer up to date information in an up to date format. However, I am concerned about the lack of face to face social interaction that is lacking in these formats. It seems to me that young technologically advanced people are starting to lose social skills. And social skills are a form of knowledge. There needs to be a balance of interaction.

As an officer in my library union, I also am concerned about future staffing requirements. Will reference librarians soon be replaced by IT personnel? Will library circulation become obsolete? Rendering circ librarians to become obsolete? As our director once said in a television interview, "The beauty of it is, technology means fewer staff."

Creating My Blog-First Thing

This is the first time I have ever created a blog. Jessie was great at helping me once she got off of her blog. I can't wait to create my Avatar. A computerized "me". I am not very computer literate. So this will be a learning experience. I am thankful for young friends.
